FWeSATA4RAIDRM - QUAD Interface 4 drive RAID 1U Rack-mount Enclosure

  This is a nicely built 1U rack enclosure with good cooling and a built in hardware RAID controller that’s easy to configure. The Quad interface enables the user to attach this 1U rack to nearly any computer with a multitude of connection options. Fans and drives are designed to idle down when not in use, keeping fan noise and power consumption very reasonable. Set up on your desktop or installed in your rack this enclosure will do the job and do it well. The workmanship is superb and the speed is as fast as you get over a single connection. Great choice for anyone needing 4 drives in a small neat package. Rubber feet are included should you prefer the keep the enclosure on the desktop.

  Choosing your RAID type is a snap. Switches on the back of the enclosure can be set to desired RAID or non RAID format, power on with the set button held down and the controller does the rest. With RAID0+1, RAID1, RAID3 or RAID5 the built in RAID controller will auto rebuild your RAID when a replacement drive is inserted and enclosure is power cycled. Drive replacement or swapping could not be easier. This enclosure has one of the nicest trayless designs made anywhere. Pull the lever out, the drive slides out far enough to easily remove.

  RAID3 and RAID5 performance over eSATA or USB3 is roughly 180 MB⁄sec write and 220 MB⁄sec read. This varies somewhat depending on file size and drive type and capacity used. It is our recommendation that all RAID drives be identical model and capacity. Over Firewire 400, 800 or USB3 speed is determined by the maximum bus speed and is effected by other devices sharing the bus. A built in JMicron RAID controller gives video quality performance in RAID3 for large media files like photos or video. For more general purpose data storage needs RAID5 is the best performance choice.

  In JBOD mode this enclosure can be used on any bus, freely swapping in drives as needed can be done on any bus that supports hotplugging (typically all eSATA, USB and Firewire buses support hotplugging). No need to power up and down, just dismount and then remove the drive. Insert another drive and it will mount.
